prior to santander's take over, I had a Bradford Bingley a/c for 30 years. I was promised my a/c would be TRANSFERRED post the branch refit. I duly returned and deposited £400 (making my a/c £1600 odd) to all intents not my BB a/c. Only then did the cashier refuse me an a/c as I did not fit santander 'protocol'.
For two years I tried to get help, during which time I had no ATM card, nor A/c to access. I tried Ombudsman (sic) - only finds in 5% of complaints - who latched onto entirely the wrong tack of "Santander refuses to give you a NEW account", instead of intelligently concentrating their minds on my requirement of a TRANSFERRED A/C (a\s I am entitled under FSA rules).
Not a technophobe, I learned BBC TV Watchdog had featured Santander. I emailed "Watchdog" thinking it was BBC TV asking for more horror stories, but it was Santander direct. At least it was their first response! And without moving a muscle, I suddenly became a bona fide customer by an ATM card with a catch. They glibly informed I had £24 odd in 'my' account - a £1600 shortfall; having the audacity to accuse me of having withdrawn the rest of it via ATM/branch albeit, I necessarily repeat, I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ATM CARD NOR ACCOUNT TO WITHDRAW FROM! Indeed, I was purposely (that money) inactive the whole time in dispute. Viz: as far as I was aware, although I had money at that branch, they refused me an account to put it into. It's withholding formed part of my complaint. _________________ custom lapel pins |
